Gemstones From Brazil
BRAZIL – PARADISE OF GEMSTONES, By Jules R. Sauer, 10 X 7 1/4, 136 pages, cloth bound. This excellent reference book is illustrated with several historical woodcuts plus a full color map of Brazil showing the states, including a key to the locations of the well known gem producing localities of the country. Color photos of world class gemstones, mineral specimens, and gemstone carvings are supplied courtesy of seven world renown photographers and institutions – Prof. Bariand of the Sorbonne in Paris, Dr. E. Gubelin of the F.G.A. in Switzerland, Erica and Harold Van Pelt of Los Angeles, the American Museum of Natural History in NY, De Beers Consolidated Mines, the Naturhistorisches Museum in Vienna, the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, and Professora S. Moneta of Milan, Italy. The first chapter relates historical information about the various gem producing localities of the country. Twenty-one chapters cover information on Brazilian Topaz, Tourmaline, Opal, Quartz, Brazilianite, Garnet, Gold, and many others including some of the rarest of collector gemstones. There is a two page glossary of gem, mineral, and mining terms, followed by the table of contents / index. The book is in mint condition, inside and outside, with the dust jacket protected by a clear plastic cover. Published in 1982 by the author.

Numerous man-made artificial gemstones are fabricated to simulate several gemstones. Some of the imitated gemstones do not possess the chemical compositions or attributes of the original stones, but several laboratory made gemstones like synthetic ruby, diamond or sapphire are bestowed with very similar chemicals as well as substantial features. Mostly these synthetic or artificial versions of gemstones are traded in a small percentage of the original gemstones price.
